Knowledge is Your Light: Teen & Parent HPV Awareness Summit. During this event, Social workers will be able to:
Describe the role of health literacy in promoting informed decision-making among adolescents and families, particularly as it relates to HPV prevention, screening, and treatment.
Identify how lived experience and storytelling can be used as effective advocacy tools to elevate patient voices, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to engage in their own health care.
Explain the historical and ethical context of medical research and vaccine development, including lessons from the life of Henrietta Lacks, and how these histories influence trust in healthcare systems today.
Distinguish evidence-based information about HPV vaccines from common myths and misinformation, and apply trauma-informed and culturally responsive communication strategies when addressing vaccine hesitancy.
Summarize current best practices and global strategies for HPV prevention and elimination, including vaccination, screening, and treatment efforts in the United States and internationally, and identify practical ways social workers can support prevention and advocacy in their communities.
