The National Association of Social Workers - Louisiana Chapter (NASW-LA), is heartbroken by the horrific shooting that occurred on Sunday morning in Shreveport. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims during this time of unimaginable grief. ACTION ALERT: Oppose Harmful Homelessness Legislation in Louisiana (HB 211 & HB 616)

If you’re a social worker who works in Louisiana with unsheltered and unhoused folks, there are a couple of really harmful bills that advocates could use your help opposing! The Louisiana Homelessness Advocacy Coalition is asking that folks drop red cards (or come testify) in opposition to HB 211 and HB 616

HB 211, by Representee Debbie Villio will be heard next Thursday, April 9. It creates a variety of offenses that criminalize homelessness.

HB 616, Representative Alonzo Knox, will be heard on Wednesday, April 8. It creates onerous restrictions and reporting requirements that could drive nonprofits or faith based providers who work with the homeless out of providing care and support.
