Chronic low back pain is one of the most common health problem among Americans, resulting in high healthcare utilization. Research shows that adults in the United States who have low back pain are more likely to be of lower SES and unemployed. Treating chronic pain from a multidisciplinary approach can help both the physical and mental health impacts of chronic pain. This presentation will focus on research/outcomes and implementation of a multidisciplinary chronic pain program. In comparison with their straight and cisgender peers, they are more likely to live alone and feel socially isolated, to lack a caregiver, to live in poverty, and to experience discrimination and mistreatment in healthcare settings. This presentation will help familiarize social workers about these and other issues facing LGBTQ+ older adults and will empower them to be effective and culturally informed advocates for this vulnerable population.
